It seems you can’t go anywhere on the internet these days without being told if you don’t have video, you’re missing out!
Personally, I don’t respond to video often — it requires me to find my headphones, but if the video looks good I’ll bookmark it for ‘later’ (which sometimes never comes!)
However when we revamped our newsletter and started the Get Organised! series, I thought I might as well give it a shot. What was there to lose? (Answer: only my patience during weeks where I struggled to remember my script!)
The benefit to our newsletter subscribers was two-fold:
- Our newsletter turned into something useful for them.
- They didn’t have to read – they could just click and listen/watch!
And we saw the results of our change to video almost instantly:
- an increase in open rate and engagement rate for our newsletters
- an increase in engagement including replies to the newsletter, sharing on social media and more
- an increase in web traffic (to view the video) of 64%.
I was blown away by the results (and continue to be blown away!). As it was initially an experiment we only planned and shot five episodes, however we now have plans for a much longer series Ask the VA which will be launched very soon.
There are three major things we learned in this process:
- Always try new things!
You may not like something, but it doesn’t mean your audience won’t! - Be consistent.
Having the video edited and ready to go every 2nd Monday worked well for our audience, and our schedule. - Be ready to continue if it succeeds!
We’ve had a bit of downtime between the switch from Get Organised! to Ask the VA due to a change in recording location. We would have had it all set up much earlier if we’d thought it would be this popular!
Do you use video in your small business? How do you find it?
Watch all the Get Organised! episodes.
